“Make no mistake — these bills punish women”— Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
This week, Ohio lawmakers passed a bill that bans abortion as early as six weeks—before most women even know that they are pregnant. The "heartbeat bill"—which is one of the most draconian abortion bills proposed nationwide —has no exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the woman.
The decision now falls on Gov. John Kasich. If he signs, the bill will effectively block access to safe and legal abortion in Ohio and criminalize doctors who provide abortion care.
But he also has the power to veto. And we have the ability to make our voices heard.
Tell Gov. John Kasich to veto the "heartbeat bill":
- Call Kasich's office at (614) 466-3555.
Not sure what to say? You can start here:
"Governor Kasich, my name is _______ and I am calling to encourage you to veto the 'Heartbeat bill.' This blatantly unconstitutional bill denies the rights guaranteed to women under Roe v. Wade. This does not serve to protect the lives of women; it poses a horrific threat to our health and livelihood."
Once you've made the call, let us know about it on Twitter and Facebook, and forward this email to a friend. If you've got extra time and more things to say to Kasich, you can also fill out this form.
Thank you for choosing not to punish women, but to stand alongside us instead.
