But that's not the current reality.
In 2013, a Supreme Court decision had a crippling effect on the Voting Rights Act— the historic 1965 law that protects against voter discrimination.
Now, 14 states have passed restrictions like voter ID laws that are meant to cause chaos and confusion at the voting booth. In the last election, these restrictions disproportionately affected black voters and voters in key states like Wisconsin.
The Voting Rights Advancement Act is designed to restore important protections, especially for minority voters who are often the targets of voter ID laws.
Don't let lawmakers silence black voices.
