We owe those who protested the Dakota Access Pipeline our thanks and gratitude—not just for stopping the pipeline, but for showing how non-violent protest can affect real change.
The water protectors at Standing Rock won a huge victory when the Army Corps of Engineers blocked the Dakota Access Pipeline's path, but there is still no full investigation into the violence and potential human rights violations they faced.
The human rights violations were called out by Amnesty International - from water cannons in freezing weather, to using arrests to suppress legal protest. All of this still needs a full investigation from the Department of Justice.
